Grounding, Bonding, and Lightning Protection

Join Avril Adendorff, EIT’s Engineering Consultant, for a comprehensive two-day workshop on mastering the practical skills and knowledge in grounding, bonding, lightning, and surge protection systems. Workshop Objectives:
- Apply Various Methods of Grounding Electrical Systems: Learn the different techniques and methods used in grounding electrical systems to ensure safety and functionality.
- Detail Applicable National Standards: Understand and comply with the relevant national standards for grounding, bonding, and lightning protection.
- Describe the Purposes of Grounding and Bonding: Gain insight into why grounding and bonding are essential for electrical systems and equipment.
- Understand Systems That Cannot Be Grounded: Learn about systems that should not be grounded and the alternative methods used to ensure safety.
- Shield Sensitive Communications Cables: Learn how to effectively shield communications cables from noise and interference.
- Apply Practical Knowledge of Surge and Transient Protection: Gain hands-on experience in protecting systems from surges and transients.
- Troubleshoot and Fix Grounding and Surge Problems: Develop the skills to identify and resolve grounding and surge-related issues.
- Design, Install, and Test an Effective Grounding System: Learn how to design, install, and test grounding systems for electronic equipment.
- Minimize the Impact of Lightning on Your Facility: Understand lightning protection methods and how to implement them to minimize damage.
- Protect Sensitive Equipment from Lightning: Learn how to protect sensitive equipment from damage caused by lightning strikes.
Practical Component:
According to Avril Adendorff, no other institution addresses the Earthing issue like EIT does. The practical component and the point of departure of this workshop will involve a site tour of the building, looking at the distribution boards, plugs, lights, and understanding how Earthing plays the overarching role.

Engineering Consultant
Avril Adendorff is an engineering consultant, with over 38 years of experience ranging from Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC), electrical, power quality, earthing of utilities, substation earthing and pumps. 24 years ago, Avril invented and built the unifridge which is currently being used and studied in many universities in South Africa.
